FTCC Thoughts — a marketing angle and a website
Jul 10th, 2006 | By Tom Johnson | Category: PlanningFor all those working on the FTCC (Florida Technical Communications Competition), I had a couple of thoughts.
1. I’d be interested to see what past winners said about how winning the FTCC competition affected them. Did it give them more respect at their company? Did it bolster their resumes and land them a new job? Did it validate years of assertions about documentation competence? Does the winning plaque hang in their cubes and receive constant admiration from project managers, business analysts, and co-workers?
If we could gather up about 10 positive responses to how winning the FTCC made an impact on their lives, that would make for a really interesting marketing angle. It would take a bit of research, but nothing extraordinary.
Then we could use this angle on our postcard and site, writing something like, “How did winning the FTCC competition change the lives of those who won?” followed by a few astonishing quotes and then details about the entry form.
2. I reserved a space on our web host for the visitor-oriented FTCC information: http://www.stc-suncoast.org/ftcc. This is still not an easy-to-remember web address, but unless we plunk down money for a vanity address, I don’t see a better alternative. We could probably pay $10 for www.floridatechnicalcommunicationscompetition.com, but that is ridiculously long (who named this thing anyway?).
If someone is feeling web-design-happy, he or she can create a site and I’ll upload it. Otherwise you can pick any wordpress themes or other pre-built templates. Right now the desert theme is on the site. (In case you’re curious, you can google “wordpress theme viewer” and see all the themes wordpress offers. Browsing these themes can be mesmerizing.)
What do you think of my two points? Do you like the angle, or is it too “blah”? What about the site idea? Beth Long is working on graphics for the site. Maybe Beth will have more ideas about the site specifics? Anyone have any Florida specific photos that would liven things up? I know Michele Bradford has an amazing picture of a baby gecko. Tricia Sullivan is in our chapter and actually supplied the banner photo of the sunshine skyway for this site. Maybe she has a florida-ish photo that would replace the desert sand dunes?
