Have you seen the new Internet Explorer 7+ browser? Enables tabbed browser and shows RSS feeds

Have you seen the new Internet Explorer browser? Although it’s not directly called the Windows Vista browser, I think it’s very close. Here’s the link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx#ie7rss

The new IE browser features tabbed browsing and shows RSS feeds. Tabbed browsing is extremely convenient. Rather than dealing with a dozen minimized windows in your task bar at the bottom of the screen, the extra windows appear as tabs at the top, which you can easily jump back and forth between. Having surfed the net with tabs for the last week, I can’t imagine going back to the previous method of minimized windows.

Another very useful feature is the built-in RSS Feedreader. It used to be that you needed a newsreader to view your feeds, and I recommended Feeddemon and Bloglines in the past. But the new IE browser has a newsreader built in. It’s not immediately intuitive where it is. Go to Tools > Toolbars > Feeds. A new panel appears on the left. Now click one of those ubiquitous RSS buttons, like the one at the bottom-right of this screen.

When you click the RSS button, notice that the format is not a bunch of XML code, like it used to be. The browser now reads it. Also, there’s a link you can click that allows you to directly add the feed to your list of feeds at the right. Pretty cool.

  1. You may want to think twice about using this browser in beta. It crashed my computer so hard the other night that it killed the hard drive.

  2. Now I’ve completely switched to Firefox and wouldn’t think twice about using IE.
