October Chapter Meeting: Defense Contracting with Lives in the Balance

Sep 19th, 2007 | By Clyde Parson | Category: Meetings

For our October 4 meeting, Geoffrey Moreland of Gyrocam Systems will discuss the development of training materials and technical manuals for soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan who are assigned to route clearance duties, using Gyrocam’s mast-mounted camera system, used for IED detection and surveillance. Gyrocam’s platform is comprised of a pneumatic mast, a gyrostabilized camera system, and BAE Systems’ RG33 armored vehicle. Over 200 gyrostabilized camera systems are currently fielded in Iraq and Afghanistan in the hunt for IEDs, which have proven to save lives by allowing soldiers to complete their missions of detecting and locating roadside IEDs from the safety of their armored vehicle.

  1. Sounds like a very interesting program, in spite of the reason for the work. I wish I could come, but since I’ll be working out of town that date, I’ll look forward to a podcast of the session and, hopefully, some way to get any handouts.

  2. [...] a link to more info about our speaker. I hope to see you [...]
