Our Tech Comm dept. is seeking advice
Apr 24th, 2008 | By Kristi_L | Category: DiscussionIn our staff meeting this week, our team went over the compiled list of feedback we got from our entries to FTCC. We looked at our positive comments and took note of what was working, and then we looked at the suggestions for improvement and there was some confusion on how to proceed. We know that we got some important suggestions from the judges, but we were unsure about the specific improvements that should be applied. Of course we will use our list of suggestions to research what will work best for our needs (I’ll be demonstrating some ROI for my employer-sponsored STC membership by digging around on the website). I have included some of our areas of concern below, and if you have some examples or some knowledge of general standards that would be helpful, please post them here. Thanks so much!
- appropriate tone and friendliness in user manuals
- use of white space, borders, and other typography-related elements to reduce density
- number of images/frequency, image sizes
- use of callouts
- effective use of headers and footers
- use of tables to organize appropriate related content
Can you put a sample online so that a peer reviewer can compare the comments to the text? You’ll get better feedback and suggestions if a reviewer can see the work.
