July Meeting - The Invisible Writer

Join us on July 2 for a presentation by Daree Allen: “The Invisible Writer.”
In this presentation, Daree discusses her work as a full-time teleworker for the past four years, including:

  • The tools she uses in her work
  • The perks and challenges of working at home (for you and your employer)
  • How to move into the “invisible” world of telecommuting
  • Suggestions for crafting a telecommuting proposal
  • How to work at home without child care (subject to time and audience need)
  • How to get promoted once you become “invisible”

About Daree Allen

Daree Allen telecommutes full-time from her home office in the Virginia Beach area as a Senior Information Developer for Alcatel-Lucent (formerly Lucent Technologies). Daree also does part-time contract work in the retail world. She is currently working on a memoir as a mentoring tool for teenage girls.

Daree is a Past President of the Washington D.C. chapter, has spoken at previous STC conferences, and has won awards in the STC Technical Publications and International Online Competitions, as well as serving as a judge. She has also facilitated divorce recovery support groups and workshops for churches. Daree joined Toastmasters International in 2008 and will earn the Competent Communicator Award in June 2009. She plans to use this award to further her speaking career.
