Technical Writer (GE Security, Bradenton, FL)

Essential Responsibilities:

- Coordinate and perform the writing of operation, installation, and service manuals, product specification sheets and technical tips to the products and systems.

- Coordinate and develop the illustration and illustrating of the technical documentation.

- Interface and collaborate with product management, design engineering and support functions on technical writing projects.

- Assist other department staff in preparing documentation project and task plans and estimates, and in defining the audience, purpose, and subject for information products.

- Improve and develop technical writing skills and tool usage.

- Improve and develop the technical writing standards for department.

- Improve and develop effectiveness of documentation and distribution methods.

- Use product demonstrations and independent experimentation to derive product information as required.

- Have or gain familiarity with applicable agency standards and guidelines, and applies them so that information products meet agency requirements.

- Conduct tests and solicits input to ensure the clarity, completeness, technical accuracy, and quality of the information products produced.

- Direct and participate in the evaluation, selection, and utilization of electronic formatting, desktop publishing, and word processing software for document creation and distribution.

- Provide input for use on technical writing project scheduling, peer edit reviews and content management.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Education:

- BA/BS in Journalism, English, Technical Writing or Electrical Engineering

Experience:

- At least three years of technical writing experience, or equivalent writing experience in a related field

- Three or more years experience in creating, editing and reviewing product datasheets, operation manuals, installation manuals, user guides, help files, etc.

- Three or more years experience in using technical writing tools such as Ventura, Framemaker, Microsoft Office, Adobe, Corel Draw, RoboHelp, etc.

- Three or more years experience with using, requirements of and incorporating technical illustrations, engineering drawings, etc.

- Highly self-motivated, results driven individual with proven track in technical writing

- Experience in operating in a high impact multi-functional team environment

- Ability to write for a diverse and wide breadth of technology products and systems

- Excellent command in the proper English usage for technical content presentation in manuals

- Experience in technical writing or technical publishing for communication and control systems.

- Experience in technical manual creation for trained electrical installers.

- Experience in technical manual creation for Graphic User Interfaces for PC based Applications.

- Experience in creating technical information into help files on PC based applications using RoboHelp.

- Experience in technical manual creation for Client/Server and WEB based TCP/IP networked solutions.

- Knowledge of commercial access control systems.
