About the Workshop

WordPress, the most widely used open-source blogging software, gives you complete control over the design and display of your content. In addition to writing blog posts, WordPress allows you to create pages, add categories, customize your site design, define how posts appear, and more. However, with WordPress’s openly accessible code and advanced control over the design and functions, many people find themselves in over their heads quickly. This workshop will help you get started and posting regularly with WordPress. Here are some of the tasks and concepts we’ll cover:

• Installing WordPress
• Using FTP to work with WordPress files
• Configuring general settings, such as permalinks
• Importing your posts from Blogger or other sites
• Writing posts and pages
• Organizing content with categories and tags
• Modifying sidebar widgets
• Ordering pages
• Choosing and implementing themes
• Installing essential plugins
• Routing your feed through Feedburner
• Updating WordPress to the latest version
• Understanding your theme’s files
• Working with CSS
• Modifying fonts and headings
• Understanding template hierarchy

You can also bring any questions you have about your own blog.
