Blogs as content management systems

Although many people think blogs serve as online journals only, they actually have evolved into mini-content management systems. What do I mean by this? I mean the entire site can be designed using blogging software. When I add content to the site, I simply select the category that the post should appear in. The links across the top are merely categories I’ve designated.

Additionally, the blog content management system makes editing of pages easy. To edit a page, all you have to do is click the Edit this entry button on the page. (If you don’t see it, it’s because your permissions don’t allow you to.)

I’m coming to the conclusion that a chapter blog is probably not going to take off because the number of participants is too small. When you post content, you want others to view and respond. When you lose your audience, you lose your motivation. Instead, if you want to interact online, you should post to www.stcforum.org, where you can draw upon the resources of the entire STC.

However, I will continue to use this site as a content management system, but also keep the blogs — just not perhaps foreground them as the main attraction. That’s why I created a static home page and “stuck” it to appear as the default page when you go to the site. To see the latest blogs, click the Blog button.
